Pakistan Post Domestic Rates: Postage Tariffs & Weight Slabs
The cost of sending mail within Pakistan depends on the weight of your item and the service you choose. This guide explains how prices are set for ordinary mail, registered mail, parcels and Urgent Mail Service (UMS). We do not publish price lists, because they change.
Pakistan Post sets its prices and changes them from time to time. Always check the current price at your General Post Office (GPO), and have your item weighed at the counter before you pay.
How Domestic Postage Prices Work
Pakistan Post prices are mainly based on weight. The price usually depends on three things:
Each service has a starting price for the first weight step. We could not confirm the exact steps, so ask at the counter.
As the weight goes up, you pay extra for each further weight step.
Extra services, such as registration or cash on delivery, add to the basic postage.
Domestic Service Categories Compared
Choose the service that fits how fast you need it to arrive, whether you need proof of delivery and your budget:
Ordinary Post
The cheapest way to send ordinary letters and cards. You pay with stamps on the envelope. There is no tracking barcode or receipt.
Registered Post and Registered Packets
Basic postage plus a registration fee. You get a barcode receipt, so you can track the item, and proof that it was delivered. Good for legal notices, official papers and transcripts.
Urgent Mail Service (UMS)
Pakistan Post’s fast domestic service for urgent documents and parcels. It has its own prices. It can deliver overnight between major cities, and in 48 to 72 hours to other places. Parcels can weigh up to 30 kg.
Heavier Parcels
For larger items and boxes, up to the weight limits the counter accepts. For mail going abroad, airmail and EMS have their own prices, explained in our international guide.
Extra Fees to Ask About
Depending on what you choose, you may pay extra fees on top of the basic postage. We could not confirm the amounts, so ask at the counter:
A fee for a card that the receiver signs on delivery, which is then posted back to you as proof.
A fee for collecting cash from the receiver and sending the money to you.
An optional fee to insure valuable items, in case they are lost.
Ask whether any booking or receipt charge is included in the price.
Checklist for Booking at the GPO Counter
When you send an item at the post office, these steps help you pay the right price:
- Pack first: Pack your item fully before you go to the counter. Wrapping, tape and padding all count towards the weight.
- Write the postcode: A clear postcode helps your item go to the right place.
- Ask for a receipt: Ask for a printed receipt that shows the postage, any registration fee and the total paid.
- Keep your receipt: Your receipt has the tracking barcode you need to follow your item online.
