Pakistan Post Tracking Number: What It Looks Like and Where to Find It

A simple guide to finding and checking the tracking number on your Pakistan Post receipt, for Urgent Mail Service (UMS), international Express Mail Service (EMS) and registered mail.

Where the Tracking Number Is on Your Receipt

When you book an item at a Pakistan Post counter with a computer, you get a printed receipt. The tracking number is usually in one of two places:

  • Directly Beneath the Barcode: On computer receipts, it is printed as a barcode, with the number written in plain text just below or beside it.
  • Beside the Article Label: For registered letters or insured parcels, a barcode sticker may be stuck on the parcel, with a matching sticker or number on your receipt.

Do not confuse the receipt’s transaction number with the tracking barcode. The transaction number is only for the payment. The barcode number is the one that tracks your item.

What Pakistan Post Tracking Numbers Look Like

The format depends on whether the item is going somewhere in Pakistan or abroad. Knowing the formats helps you check you have the right number:

Domestic ExpressUMS / UMS COD

Urgent Mail Service Identifiers

UMS items inside Pakistan get a number from the counter’s booking system. It may be all digits, or a mix of letters and digits.

Example: the number printed under the barcode on your UMS receipt
International UPU StandardEMS / Airmail

International (UPU) numbers

Mail going to or from other countries uses the international 13-character format set by the Universal Postal Union. Post offices around the world use the same format.

Example: EE123456789PK (Express Mail)

How to Read a 13-Character International Number

If you are sending or receiving a parcel abroad with Pakistan Post, the 13-character number is made up like this:

Two-Letter Prefix:The first two letters show the type of service. For example, E means Express Mail Service (EMS), C means ordinary parcel post, and R designates registered letter mail.
Nine Digits:Eight digits, then a ninth check digit that helps scanners catch mistakes.
Country Suffix (PK):Items sent from Pakistan end with the country code PK. Parcels coming to Pakistan end with the code of the sending country, for example GB (UK), US (USA) or CN (China).

Registered Letters and Parcels

People use registered mail and insured parcels for legal notices, exam papers, government documents and goods. The receipt for registered mail shows a registration number.

To track registered mail, type the full registration number from your receipt. If the clerk stuck a separate registered post label on your item, include any letters printed at the start of that number when you search on ep.gov.pk.

Lost Your Receipt? How to Get the Number Back

Pakistan Post does not have customer accounts, so you cannot find a lost tracking number by logging in.

If you lose your receipt, go back to the post office where you booked the item. Tell the staff the booking date, roughly what time it was, the receiver’s name and address, and how much you paid. They keep daily booking records and may be able to find your number.
