How Post Office Tracking Differs From Courier Apps
If you are used to courier apps, it can be worrying when Pakistan Post tracking does not change for hours or days. But post office tracking works differently: updates come from scans at post offices, not a live map.
Your item is booked at a counter, put in a mail bag with other items, sent between cities by road or rail, sorted at a post office and then given to the local postman. Tracking only updates when the item, or its mail bag, is scanned at a post office.
Common Reasons Tracking Pauses
Before you decide your item is lost, check whether one of these everyday reasons explains the pause:
1. The First Scan Takes Time to Appear
When an item is booked, the counter creates a record. It can take some hours before this first update shows on the tracking website at ep.gov.pk.
2. Travelling Between Cities
After it leaves the General Post Office (GPO), your item travels by mail van or by train on the Railway Mail Service (RMS). While it is between cities (for example, Karachi to Lahore), there are no scans until the mail bag is opened at the next office.
3. Sundays and Public Holidays
Postmen do not deliver on Sundays and gazetted public holidays. An item booked late in the week may show no change until the next working day. Mail can still travel by rail on Sundays.
4. Customs Checks for Items From Abroad
Parcels coming into Pakistan from abroad must be checked by customs first. While customs checks the parcel or works out any duty, tracking may stay the same until it is cleared.
Immediate Verification Checklist
If tracking says “No Record Found” or does not change at all, check these points first:
- Check the number: Look at your receipt and make sure you did not swap two digits or mix up similar characters, such as 0 (zero) and O (letter).
- Check the service: Make sure the item was booked with a tracked service (UMS, EMS or registered post), not as an ordinary letter with stamps.
- Allow time: If you booked very recently, allow a few hours for the record to reach the tracking website.
- Check the address: A missing street name or postcode can mean staff have to check the address by hand, which slows the item down.
When and How to Ask for Help
If there has been no new update for much longer than expected for the distance, follow these steps:
Step 1: Call the Helpline
Call Pakistan Post customer care on 111-111-117 (from a landline) or 051-111-111-117 (from a mobile). Have your tracking number, booking date and the delivery city ready.
Step 2: Send an Email
Email customercare@pakpost.gov.pk. Attach a clear photo of your booking receipt. Give the sender and receiver details, the delivery city and the weight.
Step 3: Visit the GPO Where You Booked
If calling or emailing does not help, go to the customer service counter at the GPO where you booked. Show your original booking receipt so staff can check their dispatch records.
